FERRARI “UOMO”
Director of Photography: Luke Scott
Title: Ferrari “Uomo”
Director: Robert Wyatt
Check out this “behind the scenes” footage of DP Luke Palmer shooting Ferrari “Uomo” shot with fashion photographer Robert Wyatt. Two 35mm cameras on the ruggedly beautiful Ionian Coast, at the very tip of the “heel” of Italy. The style of this spot is free and easy following the life of a super cool guy in a stunning environment. To help with that aim Ferrari sent a unique car from their Maranello museum. The car was in fact especially made as a wedding present from Gianni Agnelli (Fiat) to the President of Ferrari. The only one of it’s kind in the world…
TOSHIBA “TIME SCULPTURE”
Director of Photography: Magni Ágústsson
Title: Toshiba “Time sculpture”
Director: Mitch Stratten
Production Company: Hungry Man
This special effects-laden spot is simply mesmerising. Shot on Toshiba products by Magni Ágústsson to showcase their hi-tech capability, it features about 10 people captured in slow motion engaged in what appears to be a choreographed range of activities.
Dubbed the world’s first “timesculpture” commercial, this manipulates “snapshots of time” using more than 200 camcorders and video data requiring 336 hours of processing.
The actions of the people – from a man throwing paint, to a girl dancing – have been individually put together “to create flawless interacting loops working in harmony”.

Director of Photography: Adam Frisch FSF
Title: Adidas, Be Original
Director: David Dawoodi

A combination of clear compositions and a graceful use of slow motion accompany the soundtrack (and its somewhat strange lyrics) effortlessly. The strikingly obscure images are offset by a slow pace resulting in a celebration of true simplicity and originality.

Catherine Derry has had a very successful career as a focus puller working on commercials, music videos, documentaries and films. She is now turning her attention to lighting and has most recently shot a video for Dan Le Sac vs. Scroobius Pip which was selected to be screened at the last Bug08 event at the BFI.
Click on the link to view the video and see below for James Kennedy’s review:
A crocodile outfit wearing girl finds a letter that has fallen from the heavens, we follow her journey through the dark, desolate city streets to deliver her letter from god meeting various backstreet dwellers on the way.
Catherine Derry uses the contrast of colour, with the bright crocodile outfit and the dark city streets, to superb effect creating a surreal setting to this music video.
Great story, great visuals, great video.

N POWER
Director of Photography: Tim J M Green
Title: N Power ‘Turnham Green’
Director: Ossie Parker
Production Company: Annex Films
Shot on 35mm using two Arri 435′s against a surreal model world, the latest N Power campaign has achieved a distinctly disorientating look-in camera using cardboard sets, real exterior photographed back-drops (behind the windows) and doll’s house furniture.
All credit to Ossie Parker the Director for coming up with these amazing visual ideas and Danny Newton the Art Director who built everything with his team. Camera techniques included use of slow motion at up to 150fps, a careful variation of field-depth, high-speed shooting and motion control.
Three commercials were shot over a period of four weeks, click on the link below to view all three:
Ahoy hoy…
Magni Ágústsson is currently braving the brass monkey weather in the North Atlantic on his latest Icelandic feature, where he has been filming on a fishing boat for the last six weeks.
The high sea and the low temperatures make for very harsh shooting conditions but as you’ll see from the photos everything looks in ship-shape and Bristol fashion.
Look’ee here for a full account of Magni’s maritime adventures when he returns to our shores in May…aye.
Hard-Fi, I Will Overcome… it’s a knockout
Director of Photography: Ed Rutherford
Title: Hard-Fi, I Will Overcome
Director: D.A.R.Y.L
Production Company: Pulse Films
Some bare-knuckled direction from the hottest trio at Pulse Films, D.A.R.Y.L. coupled with beautifully lit cinematic interceptions by Ed Rutherford has clinched a memorably punchy video for Hard Fi’s next single “I will overcome”.
The grainy nature of Super16mm accompanied by a variation of camera speeds and evocative compositions perfectly offsets an inspiring narrative which follows a young amateur boxer struggling to overcome a challenging opponent. Superbly authenticated by the precise choreography and a brilliantly cast east-end crowd who no doubt lost their voices due to all that cheering…
The Times
Director of Photography: Mik Allen
Title: The Sunday Times
Director: Duncan Wellaway
Production Company: Upstart
The Times was shot on 16mm by Mik Allen, Vision’s latest addition to the roster.

Duncan Wellaway’s most recent short film Always Crashing in the Same Car, which reunited the famous Withnail & I duo Richard E. Grant and Paul McGann, won second place in the TCM 2007 Classic Shorts Competition.
Death by Chocolate
Director of Photography: Luke Palmer
Title: Cadbury’s Créme Egg, Here Today Gone Tomorrow
Director: Chris Cairns
Production Company: Partizan
Ever wondered how a Cadbury’s créme egg would commit suicide?
Wonder no further, the new campaign for Britain’s favourite chocolate egg throws up a medley of morose methods…
This campaign is purely stop frame animation shot on digital stills cameras (Nikon D2X’s) lit with one 10k and strategically placed poly, shiney or mirror-flex for varying degrees of bounced fill.
Look out for the next batch in this ongoing campaign culminating in an extremely tricky high-speed finale shot on the Phantom camera-utilizing nearly 500 specially created Créme Egg models.

Director of Photography: Magni Agustsson
Title: Tiny Dancers
Director: Charles Mehling
Production Company: Streetgang Films
In Magni Agustsson’s latest video, a ‘rockumentary’ directed by Paul Milnor at Streetgang, we move seamlessly from an intimate performance piece to a live gig – intercut with artistic compositions and complimented by a beautifully naturalistic hand-held style.
It’s a bit much asking them to hold their own lights though Magni, as if they haven’t got enough to do…
Shipshape and Cornwall fashion
Director of Photography: Ed Rutherford
Title: Funeral for a Friend
Director: D.A.R.Y.L.
Production Company: Pulse Films
Ed Rutherford’s latest copper-bottomed music video for “Funeral for a Friend” The Great Wide Open was directed by a collective of three directors going by the name of D.A.R.Y.L at Pulse Films. Shot in a fish shed in Cornwall, the film employs a strong nautical theme through the use of red (port) and green (starboard). By and large the look and dynamic was created firmly in camera combining a use of manually operated shift and tilt lenses, a de-synchronized shutter and some cunning day for night helicopter shots
Watch out for Ed’s next video in the offing, directed and produced by the same team for “Lethal Bizzle” Police on my Back, coming soon!

Thinking outside the box
Director of Photography: Luke Palmer
Title: Athlete, Hurricaine
Director: Anthony Dickenson
Production Company: Manifesto
This cleverly made film showcases a number of techniques at once; it’s motion control, frame by frame, long-exposure, animation – shot on digital stills cameras and then made into movies…did you catch that? Some innovative thinking and white poly boxes have resulted in an unusual take on the performance piece shot by Luke Palmer.
Click on the link below to view the video along with an extra little stop-motion spot, equally as clever, shot with Chris Cairns at Partizan.
